12th International Gdansk Choir Festival

About The Gdansk Choir Festival

Set in the cultural city of Gdansk, this festival is organised by the Artistic Agency Melody. Choirs can choose to compete in one of the festival categories or simply sing for please in the non-competitive category.  Each choir gets a maximum stage performance of 15 minutes and this includes getting on and off the stage allowing for a ca.13 min pure singing time.  Choral performances are judged by five experienced musicians from both Poland and overseas.  The jury evaluates choirs based on intonation, voice emission, interpretation, diction and general artistic effect. In the evenings, choirs perform joint concerts of 15-20 minutes in Gdansk’s beautiful churches or in neighbouring areas throughout the weekend. A gala concert then takes place on the Sunday afternoon. Choir also have ample free time to see the city sights.
 

Festival Categories

Choirs can take part in following categories:

A. Mixed Choirs Adults - singers above 18 years - minimum 20 singers
B. Equal Voices Choirs Adults - Male & Female Choirs - singers above 18 years minimum 16 singers
C. Youth Choirs age 14-19 years - minimum 20 singers
D1. Children Choirs age 10-14 years - minimum 20 singers
D2. Junior Children Choirs age 6-12 years - minimum 20 singers
E. Chamber Choirs (no age limits) - 10-24 singers
X. Non competitive category - take part in gala concert and 2 additional concerts
 
Prizes
In each category, the following prizes are awarded:
GOLD MEDAL for the choir with the highest no. of points from Golden Diploma range
GOLD DIPLOMA 90,00-100,00 points
SILVER DIPLOMA 80,00-89,99 points 
BRONZE DIPLOMA 65,00-79,99 points

A participation diploma is awarded to all choirs who receive below 6,500 points.
 
 

Gdansk

In medieval times, Gdansk was said to be the most important city for the economy of Poland and many say that it is still one of the most unique places on earth.  Gdansk offers a plethora of culture and history and is sure to delight your choir. Visit the city sights of Neptune's Fountain, St. Mary's Basilica, Arthur's Court and The Old Crane.  Enjoy the warmth of the Polish people  and see what this lesser visited city has to offer.
 

Itinerary

 

DAY 1 

Choirs arrive in Poland. Those arriving by plane are met by their local assistant who will assist with transfer to your hotel in Gdansk. Groups can arrange to have a welcome dinner in their hotel or local restaurant in the evening restaurant. In the evening, the competition and performance cycle begins.
 

DAY 2

Enjoy breakfast in your hotel before starting the day. Groups can enjoy a city tour of Gdansk with their local guide. Performances take place throughout the morning, afternoon and into the evening.   Take the opportunity to hear other international choirs perform.  Listening to other choirs perform canbe especially useful for those participating in the non-competitive category who might be considering a future competitive performance. After the days’
activities, groups can relax and mingle at an evening dinner in their hotel. Evening concerts take place in local Churches in Gdansk and surrounding areas.
 

DAY 3

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Enjoy some time at leisure and in the late afternoon, attend the concert and prize-giving award ceremony. Evening concerts again take place in local Churches in Gdansk and surrounding areas.  In the evening, attend the Gala Concert with prize giving ceremony. 
 
 

DAY 4

Depart Gdansk, or opt to extend your stay.

Choirs can choose to participate in the non-competitive Festival Category or to compete in the relevant Competition Category.
 

Your festival ground arrangements include the following:

• Three-nights in a 3* or 4* Hotel with breakfast
• Dinner each evening (optional extra)
• Festival participation fee
• Concert performance of 15-minute duration
• Performance in a local church
• Return airport transfers from airport with guide assistance on arrival
• One free place for choir conductor on the ground
 

A full programme of sightseeing tours is also offered to choirs.

•Dinner each night in your hotel (optional extra)
 

Tour Manager

• A CCI Tour Manager will be assigned to you for the duration of your booking, to assist in the pre-departure preparations and to assist with any issues during your stay. The tour manager does not travel with the group.
 

Transportation while in Gdansk

Choirs usually make their way around the city with the local guide via public transport. However, we can arrange coach transportation for your group as
required. 
 

Price does not include Flights

Once you enquire with CCI you will be given your own dedicated festival planner, and this planner will also assist you with the booking of flights for your group. We will advise you on luggage allowance and all details relating to your flight booking. Travel Insurance CCI recommend that all travellers take out travel insurance at the time of booking.
